Optimizing OER for All Learners (Session 4)

Creating OER with equity, inclusion, and accessibility in mind ensures that all learners—regardless of background, ability, or learning style—have meaningful opportunities to engage with educational materials. In this chapter, we explore key design decisions that shape open resources to be more inclusive and impactful. You will learn practical strategies for making materials accessible, examine how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) supports both effective pedagogy and accessibility, and develop the skills to evaluate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in OER. By the end, you will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to create and assess open resources that truly support all learners.
